Painting in salt air: why prep matters more on the coast
Coastal exposure speeds up every kind of paint failure. On a Shediac exterior we pay particular attention to:
Salt and chalk residue. Salt and chalky, oxidized paint keep new coatings from bonding. Thorough washing before painting is essential near the water.
UV and fading. Open, sunny exposures near the beach fade colour and dry out wood faster than sheltered inland homes. Premium exterior coatings that resist UV and moisture hold colour longer.
Wind-driven rain and moisture. End grain, window sills, trim joints and deck boards are where water gets in. We scrape, sand and repair caulking gaps, and prime bare wood before the finish coats.
Mildew on shaded sides. Damp shoulder seasons encourage mildew, which has to be cleaned off, not painted over.

Planning around the summer season
Shediac gets busy in summer, and many properties are seasonal or rented out. Exterior painting needs dry weather and suitable temperatures, so plan early and let us know if the property is vacant or occupied part of the year.
